Sexual Violence Awareness

May is Sexual Violence Awareness Month (SVAM) in Alberta.

SVAM is about awareness, but there is more to it than that – the ultimate goal is prevention.

More than 11 million Canadians have been physically or sexually assaulted since the age of 15. This represents 39% of women and 35% of men 15 years of age and older in Canada. Anyone can experience sexual violence in their lifetime, however most incidents occur against women and girls.

How can you prevent sexual violence? It starts with changing the culture. ACWS offers gender-based violence prevention training tailored for schools, workplaces and community organizations. Learn more about Leading Change and take action from where you stand.
