Expansion Pack

It’s time to level up and expand your impact.

We all have a role to play in stopping the overwhelming pandemic of violence and abuse against women and girls. We need to form a united front, from all members of our communities, against this violence if we are ever going to see the numbers go down.

In addition to ACWS’ Leading Change workshops and sessions, we also have do-it-yourself at home options to learn more about how YOU can make a difference. You have the power to become a part of the solution. The Leading Change Expansion Pack is a great place to start.

There are two options to get going – pick the one that works for you!

The Leading Change Expansion Pack is now available* to help everyone better understand their role and opportunity to make the world a better place. If you are looking for a way to get involved, order your today!

This work can be challenging. The Leading Change Expansion Pack is designed to have you expand your tool-kit to make change, at your own pace, and in the comfort of your own home. The Leading Change Expansion Pack is open to everyone — whether you know a little or a lot about how violence works and how you can make a difference.

*while quantities last!

In collaboration with Maskan Family Association, we have also created the Immigrant Youth Leading Change Expansion Pack – another expansion of your tool-kit to help provide safety, support families, and strengthen communities across Alberta. This pack was developed to speak specifically to the experiences of Immigrant, Newcomer, and Refugee youth.

Designed with the input and advice of over 20 community organizations, this pack can help Immigrant, Newcomer, and Refugee youth interrupt inter-generational cycles of violence and start important and culturally relevant conversations among friends, family, and community members.

Level up.

FAQs

What’s inside?

Both versions of the Expansion Pack include information and activities to support recipients in learning more about how they can become a stronger part of the solution in ending violence against women and girls. The contents help explain how gender-based violence works and what we can all do to change that culture.

How much does it cost?

Thanks to the support of our sponsors, the Leading Change Expansion Pack and the Immigrant Youth Leading Change Expansion Pack are both available free to subscribers.

This project is funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada, the Government of Alberta, and EPCOR.

Who is this for?

The Expansion Packs are available to anyone in Canada who is interested in becoming part of the solution to end gender-based violence. While most people aren’t violent, we can all make change by being actively anti-violent.

The Expansion Packs introduce new ways to think and talk about gender-based violence, along with exercises and activities to start practicing that change in the world.

No matter how active someone has been in this work, or has yet to be, the information and activities in the box will help them expand their thinking and be more active allies. People of all genders are welcome to order a Pack for themselves or people that they care about.

Why an Expansion Pack? Is there a Starter Pack?

Everyone has a different degree of knowledge about and experience with gender-based violence. The Expansion Packs build on this knowledge and help people move toward action.

Why are there two different versions?

The first Leading Change Expansion Pack was launched in 2020 and was aimed at supporting men in better understanding their role in ending gender-based violence. Other allies also ordered the Pack and we saw just how many different people interested in this work. To date, more than 2,000 packs have been distributed across Canada.

In 2024, we designed new materials, focused on culturally relevant content for Immigrant, Newcomer, and Refugee youth. This became a new version – the Immigrant Youth Leading Change Expansion Pack. The ideas are the same but the content is updated to reflect the experiences of these youth and support them to lead change in their communities. Youth play a crucial role in building safer and more equitable communities, so this pack is for them.

Who are the organizations behind the Expansion Packs?

The Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters (ACWS) is the provincial network organization of women’s shelters in Alberta. ACWS supports members operating over 50 shelters across the province for women, children, and seniors facing domestic abuse. We support our members and work with them to end domestic violence through culture-shifting violence prevention programs, collective data and research, and front-line training. With support from ACWS, Alberta shelters are helping provide safety, support families, and improve communities. Leading Change is the call to action of the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters.
