Leading Change™ in Fox Creek: Understanding Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse

September 28, 2022 - 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm MDT

In this session, community members will explore the root causes of domestic violence to gain an understanding of how and why violence happens. Prevalence and rates of elder abuse, intergenerational trauma, and violence in rural communities will also be discussed. We will examine and challenge common myths and misconceptions that exist about domestic violence. Using the evidenced-based Duluth Model of Power and Control, we will discuss the various tactics abusers use to establish a dynamic of coercive control. The session will provide the skills and knowledge of how to recognize abusive dynamics, how to safely support people experiencing violence, and understand more about available resources.
