Domestic violence doesn’t stop between 9 am and 5 pm. Research shows that over half of people experiencing abuse reported attacks taking place at or near their workplace. Additionally, approximately 90 percent of people experiencing violence will disclose to a trusted coworker.
Domestic Violence and Your Workplace is a comprehensive program developed by the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters (ACWS). ACWS has worked with Alberta employers for over a decade to help them meet legislative requirements to address domestic violence as a workplace hazard and reduce risks for employees and the organization. The program supports a holistic response to domestic violence, including policy consultation, facilitated sessions, and in-depth training for selected staff. Rooted in leading-edge research and Alberta employers’ experiences, Domestic Violence and Your Workplace explores how workplaces can foster safer spaces for employees experiencing violence.
