SUMMARY:Leading Change™ in Fox Creek: Understanding Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, community members will explore the root causes of domestic violence to gain an understanding of how and why violence happens. Prevalence and rates of elder abuse\, intergenerational trauma\, and violence in rural communities will also be discussed. We will examine and challenge common myths and misconceptions that exist about domestic violence. Using the evidenced-based Duluth Model of Power and Control\, we will discuss the various tactics abusers use to establish a dynamic of coercive control. SUMMARY:Edmonton Business Association Breakfast: Domestic Violence and Your Workplace
DESCRIPTION:Domestic violence doesn’t stop between 9 am and 5 pm. Research shows that over half of people experiencing abuse reported attacks taking place at or near their workplace. Additionally\, approximately 90 percent of people experiencing violence will disclose to a trusted coworker. \nDomestic Violence and Your Workplace is a comprehensive program developed by the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters (ACWS). ACWS has worked with Alberta employers for over a decade to help them meet legislative requirements to address domestic violence as a workplace hazard and reduce risks for employees and the organization. The program supports a holistic response to domestic violence\, including policy consultation\, facilitated sessions\, and in-depth training for selected staff.
